The CRAFT & CALLING

Barbering isn’t just a service—it’s a ritual.

Long before the word “barber” entered Latin as barba (beard), the sacred practice began in ancient Kemet (Egypt). Barbers were trusted healers, spiritual caretakers, and counselors. They shaved kings for the afterlife, treated warriors, and preserved dignity in every stroke.

At Mayes Barbering Atelier, this legacy lives on. Every cut, every beard line, every conversation is a continuation of that sacred trust.

Certified in PsychoHairapy

Where Grooming Meets Mental Health

In 2024, Al Mayes became a certified PsychoHairapist—a powerful practice founded by Dr. Afiya Mbilishaka that blends mental health awareness with Black hair care. The barbershop has always been a sanctuary for emotional release, identity expression, and brotherhood. Now, that space is more intentional than ever.

Here, clients are heard, seen, and transformed. Haircare becomes self-care. Shaping a beard becomes shaping confidence.
